Historical Archaeology on Svalbard
As researcher in historical archaeology on Svalbard, I am responsible for building a research community around the 50,000+ artifacts in the Svalbard Museum collections. The artifacts include material from all parts of European presence on the archipelago including Dutch, Danish, and British European whale hunting, Russian and Norwegian winter hunting, scientific expenditions, early industrial activity, and the Second World War. As an archaeologist who has worked in historical, industrial, and contemporary archaeology I am interested in all parts of Svalbard’s human heritage up to and including the present. As my position at the Svalbard Museum is permanent, my research will grow and develop with time and I am open to collaborating with anyone interested in studying Svalbard’s rich material culture.
