In 2023 and 2024, the Svalbard Social Science Initiative (SSSI) hosted two workshops under the project Transdisciplinary Bridges to explore how researchers and local stakeholders can collaborate across disciplinary boundaries in Svalbard.
Funded by the Research Council of Norway through the Svalbard Science Forum, the project created a space for dialogue between academics from various fields and actors outside academia. The workshops built on earlier SSSI initiatives to strengthen the growing community of social science and humanities researchers in Svalbard, while fostering closer ties with the local community in Longyearbyen.
Insights and reflections from the workshops have been brought together in a scientific article co-authored by members of the SSSI network.
